to cmc66 : That would have been very expensive. The price for a fuck was nearer 'half a crown' or c12.5 pence today. These are almost certainly professionals for whom a pair of stockings was an essential tool of the trade for them so they would have done an all-nighter with these US soldiers for a pair.

I read an article years ago that showed how during World War 2 there were posters saying stuff like make sure your boyfriend or husband has a good time when he's home on leave.
